In a paper published in the journal Nature Genetics, the team reported that three genetic regions were associated with the number of cigarettes smoked per day, one region was associated with smoking initiation, and one variant was associated with smoking cessation.
The variants on chromosome 15 that were associated with heavy smoking lie within a region that contains nicotinic receptor genes, which other scientists have previously associated with nicotine dependence and lung cancer.

During an informal meeting at PayPal’s Amsterdam based headquarters, PayPal has announced that they will facilitate In App Purchases in iPhone and Android applications. According to Benelux Country Manager Dennis van Allermeersch, PayPal came up with a solution that is acceptable to Apple: “We have found a way, Apple is OK with it.” The alternative In App payment method will be available from 2nd quarter 2010. US, Canada, UK, France, Italy, The Netherlands and Australia will be first in offering this new payment solution.
